SURRENDER

O' God above all earth's disgrace
We long to see Your holy face
Christ's death redeems the wretched ones
His precious blood makes sinners sons
"Look up," You whisper to our hearts
"Your empty ways you shall depart.
Child lift your eyes to Me on high -
In letting go, I'll draw you nigh."

God desires to reveal the amazing grace and overwhelming love He has for His people. He tells us if we seek Him with our whole heart we will find Him. He made us for Himself. He wants to dwell in us fully. He purposes to use us for His own glory. Like soft clay in the hand of an expert Potter, the LORD God of Heaven and earth faithfully fashions all the circumstances of our lives to bring us to our knees. Every sin and selfishness we choose, destructive consequence of sin, and difficult thing we encounter, delivers us to the place of no more strength or ability of our own, and a willingness to finally acknowledge Him in HIS rightful place as Creator, Sustainer and Owner of our lives. We reach a point of saying, “WHATEVER YOU WANT, LORD, that is what I want. No more me... only YOU from this point on.” It is then He begins to reveal Himself.

When destructive things happen as a result of our own choices and self-oriented ways, God makes us willing to consider the Biblical truth that we were created to live a life of dependence upon Him for all things. When SELF is involved to any extent, things just don't work. Bad things happen. People get hurt. Shame and guilt are constant companions.

Time after time though proving ourselves quite faulty in our own efforts, God proves Himself perfectly and completely ABLE. He doesn't need our help. He doesn't need me to figure things out or to make a good plan. He simply wants us to GIVE UP the selfish desire for control. He works all things together to bring His children to the place of SURRENDERING ALL we are, ALL we have, and ALL we do into His all-capable hands. He wants us to REST in HIM, and He patiently works in us to trust HIM completely with ALL things.

In order to trust God fully, we must be willing to fully surrender ANY and ALL trust we have in ourselves. We must stop believing we have our “own rights". It is simply NOT possible to live life both the LORD's way and our way. We must come to the place where we understand and believe HIS way is the ONLY good way, and invite Him to take over. He ALONE is worthy to fashion our lives, and He ALONE is capable of managing them correctly.

Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn Thy commandments. (Psalm 119:73) God is not satisfied with SOME. He wants ALL. He commands that we love HIM with ALL our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to cast ALL our cares upon Him because He cares for us! Traveling over the mountains and through the valleys of life builds our faith in the one true God and builds a solid foundation of trust in Him beneath our feet.

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of His understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:25-31) But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

We have to trust God beyond what we see or think. Sinful decisions along the way produce destructive consequences. These consequences strive to keep us down. We must choose to look to God instead... and to the provision of REDEMPTION and RESTORATION He offers us through His Son Jesus Christ!

For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.... (I Timothy 2:5)
